10. Brief summary and how you would use the book, with students.
This is a book about an amazing story of Wilma Rudolph. The story is about life events she went through. Wilma Rudolph contracted polio right before she turned five. The doctors told her she may not walk again. Wilma showed all around the town how determined she was to walk again. At the age of twelve, she did not need the leg braces any more. Then by the age of twenty she was competing in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. She became the first American woman to earn three gold medals in a single Olympics. With the power of her and her family, Wilma was able to prove that miracles can happen with individual effort. She had the determination to over come the trial and tribulations that she faced. I would love to you this book for African American Month and also if I teach her in clarksville then I can use it to teach about Wilma Rudolph. After reading this book, I would get the kids to write a short essay of what determination means to them and Wilma Rudolph. They can also learn about the Olympics. This was a great book. My mother-in-law had this book and wanted me to read it! I recommend this book to anybody!
